THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITIES JOURNAL
A Thematic Bibliography
5th Edition:

4. MODELS, INNOVATIONS AND DEVELOPMENTS IN THERAPEUTIC COMMUNITY PRACTICE

This is a comprehensive bibliography of articles from the International Journal of Therapeutic Communities (IJTC) now known as Therapeutic Communities. It covers a fifteen year period from 1986 to 2001 and the articles are drawn from the following editions:

The International Journal of Therapeutic Communities (IJTC) Vol. 7, No. 1, 1986 to Vol. 12, No. 4, 1991.

Therapeutic Communities Vol. 13, No. 1, 1992 to Vol. 22, No. 4, 2001.

BACKGROUND: This bibliography was compiled at the request of colleagues and students who wanted a quick and easy point of entry into the journal via a relevant thematic route.

METHOD: Each edition over the eleven year period was sampled, the abstract for each article reviewed and the focus of each article clearly identified. From this sampling exercise, a number of categories were identified. A minimum of ten items were required to constitute a category. In all, nine major categories emerged and provide the basis for the thematic headings by which the bibliography is organised. Articles which did not fit any of the nine major themes were allocated to a miscellaneous theme. In some cases, a small number of articles were allocated to more than one theme.

STRUCTURE: The articles are organised in alphabetical order, by the first named author under the appropriate theme heading. In the case of two themes, ‘Therapeutic Community Research’ and ‘Communities for Specific Client Groups,’ the articles are further divided into a number of sub headings.
