from the Library of Dr. Susan Brinkworth

The books listed below came to the Research Library from the estate of the late Dr. Susan Brinkworth (1948-2005), psychotherapist. The solicitors acting on behalf of the estate were put in touch with the Archive and Study Centre by Andrea Chandler, the Librarian of the Institute of Psychoanalysis in London.
It is our understanding that there is an autobiographical manuscript with a friend or colleague in Canada, and it would be good to be able to trace this. We do know that her early ambition was to be a writer, and then an illustrator for Disney. She took her PhD. in the United States in 1983, at Yeshiva University in New York, and at the time of her death was still listed on the faculty of the Albert Einstein School of Medicine in New York. Her adult life seems to have been terribly affected by a major train crash in the States. In 2004 or early 2005, having returned to Chichester in England, she won an Age Concern writing prize; the silver salver for which has gone to the Chichester local library.
It is clear from the books listed below that Dr. Brinkworth had a special concern for psychotherapy and group psychotherapy in relation to physical illness, and also bereavement. From the books and objects in her flat in Chichester, it is also clear she was deeply in love with Tibet and Eastern religions.
